‘aka jewellery’ is a studio brand handmade by designer Ausra Bankauskaite. Trained in metal-working and jewelry-design, Ausra began creating contemporary pieces that bridged the worlds of art objects and jewelry. Aware of the dual nature of her designs, Ausra assigned the abbreviation ‘aka - also know as’ to describe works. Her jewelry is based on two concepts: structure and functionality, which are combined to create minimal aesthetic forms to have the maximum function. Essential to ‘aka jewellery’ is the idea of harmony with the human body. The jewelry must not disturb the body, instead, work with the human form to enhance and extend its aesthetic lines. The result is an immaculate, non-iterative design that functions as a small sculptural object when not worn.
